Welcome to my Diary!
I will admit it’s weird to be writing this knowing people will read it, especially considering when in middle school someone reading your diary was a pretty terrifying thought. Now just for clarity, this isn’t going to be exactly like a ‘diary’. I wanted to leave myself open to talking about anything I feel inspired to write about or anything I have useful advice about.
The idea for this blog started when a girl who used to dance with me started asking me questions about what to do before you even apply to medical school. She was unsure about everything from the program you should enter to the kind of volunteer work that you should be doing. I realized that there is no place that all this information is condensed into one. To find out everything I know now it required spending hours researching and let me tell you it was not always easy to find. I didn’t even know that medical schools accepted anyone from non-science programs. The way I learned that there were different routes you could take was from a letter I received from my university’s philosophy department. In the letter they asked me to major with them. Besides the letter they included a list of all the programs that people with a philosophy degree tend to excel. This is how I realized that my dream of going into medicine was not dependant on going into the science. Like I said, the information wasn’t readily available, so I decided I could compile it into one place. If all the time I spent researching can help someone else, then why not share it. That will be the concept behind my ‘unqualified advice’ series here on my blog, if you check out the first blog post in that series you can find out why its titled ‘unqualified’.
After thinking it over I realized I had other things to write about, like upcoming (and past) travel and the puppy I got a year ago. I have become a master at balancing school and work and have gained helpful tips from doing school full time for the last four years while also holding two jobs that I am dedicated to.
So I invite you to stay a while, check out my posts and if you like what I’m doing sign up for emails so you can get notified when I post something new!
Elvis (the puppy I previously mentioned) is eagerly awaiting you, so leave us a comment.
I ‘m happy you are starting this journey with me!
